This program provides education and research opportunities to students who wish to become high-level engineers and researchers who excel in theory and practice of information engineering.
Fields included in this program are:
computer hardware, software, architecture, graphics, speech processing, digital signal processing, image processing, communication systems, human interface, rehabilitation engineering, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and others.
The curriculum consists of lectures aiming to let students perceive and deeply understand the current situation of the advanced field of information engineering and courses such as applied mathematics which is necessary to understand the theory of information engineering. In addition, workshops to acquire practical methods to pursue higher level of development and research are also included in the curriculum.
Research and education are held with a central focus on the following research programs.
Basics of Information Research Program
Basic research on nonlinear systems is conducted as the basic skills for understanding computers. We also deal with basic research on the promotion of multi-media and remote education that correspond to the advancement of various media and communication technology.
Applied Information Research Program
This program handles human interface in regards to computers and system architecture that utilizes computers most effectively in education. Study of high-level speech processing is also conducted here. Furthermore, research on more advanced speech-transmission cognition, analysis and processing grounded on human voice, and cognitive systems that fully utilize signal processing and speech processing technology are also handled in this program.
Information Network Research Program
Studies on the theory necessary for communication and information processing related to information networks and its application to various fields are conducted in this program. Examples include:
evaluation and optimization of information network systems using experimental and formula models, network security and information security.
Additionally, related to radio transmission, the program pursues research on theory regarding removal of interference waves and encoding technology and its application.
Information Systems Research Program
The program’s main research is on methods to evaluate and analyze the intelligent system that supports human intellectual activities in this advanced information society. Research on methods of systemization and relationships between human beings and information systems are also conducted. Some of the topics studied are: technologies related to discovering information from a database system which has advanced into data-mining, how databases are handled in each process of information discovery, application of mechanical learning, processing conversation with human beings, and others. Understanding the features of audio-visual processing and information reception on human beings, the basic research on human beings and information systems, and its application are also conducted in this program.
