N.I.T. has been actively involved in international exchange since its establishment.
research with many international students from Asian countries, and foreign trainees who are studying Japanese, as well as researchers from overseas universities who are also frequently visiting NIT. We have had international academic exchanges with King Mongkut’s University of Technology-Thonburi in Thailand for more than 10 years, and more than 20 years with Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. We also have an academic arrangement with the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA.
In the past 10 years NIT has been involved in many global activities. For example, the Department of Architecture engaged in restoring the Baha Bahi Buddhist Monastery in Nepal. The university also held an international conference on diamonds, and established an industryuniversity collaboration project with Bekaert (the world’s largest independent wire producer). In 1996, the NIT Inter-cultural Campus in Canada was opened as a place for international cultural exchanges between the two countries and also as a facility students may use for accommodation and research

Department of Architecture restoring the Buddhist monastery in Nepal
Ever since 1990, Department of Architecture has been involved in “Restoration project for Buddhist monasteries in Nepal”. This photo is the Baha Bahi monastery situated in Patan, a town located on the southeastern border of Kathmandu. It is reported that the monastery was constructed in 1491 and renovated in 1661. However, it was devastated and if no measures were to be taken, such precious cultural heritage was sure to be ruined. Viewing such situation, NIT volunteered to help. At the end of March 1996, the restoration was completed.
