Architectural Design and City Environment Project

Using a collaborative approach, students will plan and design an architectural space within a community. Through investigative fieldwork, students will examine the contextual history of the area, its culture, and its physical environment. Students will then conduct a workshop with residents and city administrators to evaluate the living space needs for the city from various points of view, such as design, structure and the environment. Students will then make a design proposal using this information.

Living Environment Design Project

Students cooperate with graduate students from other fields to plan and design an attractive environmental space, such as a living space and/or a commercial space. Groups will examine not only where the buildings will be located and its functional living aspect; they will also complete practical research on the cultural and social aspects required for the project. Groups will then go on to examine the technical aspects of the design, such as framing systems.

Assisted Living Facility Design Project

In this course students will plan and design an assisted living space. Students will determine the goals of the project by researching the historical and cultural environment of the facility. Then groups will examine the relationship between the residents of the assisted living space, their lifestyle needs, and the community's needs. Students then propose an environmentally friendly assisted living space that will meet both individual and society needs in an environmentally sustainable way.
