Faculty Information

Practical engineers are born here at NIT, and you can see why.

Practical Engineering

Engineers who are to become project leaders at production sites in the 21st century have many opportunities ahead of them. Here, students learn Engineering theories along with practical skills. "Practical Engineering" will prove itself invaluable on the ground.

Liberal Arts

In order to become globally competitive engineers, they need to be educated with a broad range of knowledge, have language proficiency to nurture good relations and be accustomed to sports and health related activities to lead a healthy life. We provide many courses on the environment as one of our characteristics.

Physics, Mathematics and Linguistic Literacy

NIT provides a program to help students master fundamental subjects for engineering; mathematics, physics and linguistic literacy. Taking into account the students' current abilities, our new basic education system will nurture them to steadily acquire the basic necessary skills needed to work in the future society. For that to work effectively, a quarter system has been introduced in which one year is divided into four semesters. Students are divided into classes according to their present skills and abilities, evaluated by the placement test at the beginning of their first year. In accordance with each student's abilities, the difficulty level of each class will be raised on to a higher level of study as they proceed to the next quarter.

Environmental Education

Our whole campus is ISO 14001 certified, highlighting the fact that NIT is a university committed to environmental issues. We have environment related courses under liberal arts, and many other specialized courses as well. Students are also engaging in their own environmental activities. NIT is a "university where you can learn about the environment."

Workshop Education

Workshop Education is where students learn about planning, designing, manufacturing and constructing one project, such as a miniature lathe. In a span of 2 to 3 years, students who have completed their project using tools and machines will be given the title of "College Meister". The experience gained here is noted as the first step to becoming future project leaders.

Dual System

Soon after entering NIT, students will actually start practicing experiments, laboratory training and drawing while studying the basic knowledge and theories necessary for such experience. This effective and also revolutionary education where students gain practical experience and specialized knowledge is what we call the "Dual System".

Graduation Research

When students reach their 3rd or 4th year, they become members of research groups to tackle their graduation research. Under the in-depth supervision of their academic supervisor, students will decide on the topic, and then pursue experiments and investigations to complete their graduation thesis or designs. Here, the ability to detect problematic issues and find solutions is encouraged.
